the Tale of the Ox and the Wolf

Once upon a time, there were two strangers, an ox and a wolf. Ox and Wolf had met in the wild, but one fateful day, their paths collided at a secret festival nestled deep within the wildest of woods. Once they had truly met, Ox and Wolf became fast friends.

One seemingly average day, Ox treated Wolf to a feast, and with it, opened his dear friend’s mind to the magical world of kombucha.

One day–and not long after–Wolf decided to surprise Ox at his home. Wolf brought everything the Ox would need to brew kombucha, just assuming it was the right thing to do. Ox was delighted, for he had wanted to learn. He had no idea that the Wolf had taken a deep interest in where this magical brew came from. Wolf had done a deep exploration into kombucha after his first taste, and he had discovered properties too fascinating to keep bottled up.

Ox noticed something different about Wolf’s brew – it used no tea! In its stead, Wolf used a special flower of deep red and a crushed evergreen leaf that Ox had never seen before. Wolf was making kombucha unlike any that Ox had ever tasted.

Ox joined Wolf in his experiments with the red flowered drink, each discovering distinct properties of the brew, better ways to brew it, and adding forest fruits enhance it. They spent years playing with ideas. The Ox soon began selling bottles out of his home, even returning to the festival to peddle his newly-made wares. All the creatures of the land loved the brews and they sold like the enchanting potions they were proving to be.

Many moons passed, and Wolf began to think about selling the brews himself. He began to produce in larger and larger amounts, sharing with friends and drumming up excitement in his little corner of the world. It wouldn’t be long before the Ox came along and began to add things to these concoctions–things that would send them into realms of flavor as yet unreached. One in particular was the red flower from long past, and fresh berries to give it boundless depth.

Wolf and Ox soon realized that this brew was important, that it needed to be shared with the world, and that they had a responsibility to themselves and to their community.

In their bustling little city, a magical elixir shop run by a company of brewer rats from the Other Lands became the key to fulfilling their quest. This shop–though it produced many brews of a much different kind–proved to be ready for a foray into new realms of kombucha. One day, Ox and Wolf noticed that the rats had been selling a classic variety of kombucha, and so they struck up a conversation that would change everything.

Today, Ox, Wolf, and the rats of the Other Lands make the deep red elixir in batches large enough to share with all the creatures of the land.
